![]() OVER 7 DECADES OF INTEGRITY -- PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE In 1939, Colonel O.R. Whiddon established Causeway Lumber Company with $500, a pick-up truck, and a dedication to meet and exceed the needs of South Florida's Construction Industry with honesty and integrity. Today, over half a century later... the commitment continues as Causeway Lumber has grown into a full-service building materials company selling to professional building contractors. The original location the Colonel chose for his lumber company was in Fort Lauderdale on what is known today as Sunrise Boulevard. At the time, however, it was one of the few roads that traveled to the beach and was known as the 10th Street Causeway. Hence the name Causeway. One year later, the company moved to its present headquartered site on State Road 84 and Andrews Avenue, where facilities could be expanded to keep ahead of the pace of a growing community. Today, the company operates out of two locations with facilities to meet the professional builders' needs in FORT LAUDERDALE and STUART. The accelerated pace of the construction industry during the 60's, 70's, and 80's brought about the need for new vision combined with a commitment to maintain our reputation for integrity. The colonel's son Gene provided the leadership needed to position Causeway as a major supplier of materials in the South Florida market. Today, under third generation leadership, President M. Scott Whiddon continues this tradition of excellence while preparing for the future. Causeway Lumber supplies lumber and plywood, reinforcing steel, tie beam & floor trusses, doors, windows, and decorative hardware to the most prestigious developers and builders in South Florida. With a company of dedicated men and women who take pride in their job, you can be assured you're dealing with a company that cares about giving 100% value and 110% effort! As the landscape and our customers have changed over the years, we too have changed in order to maintain our competitive advantage. Embracing change is exemplified by the creation of Causeway's Design Gallery. The vast assortment for doors, windows, custom millwork, mouldings, and other architectural details, as well as the birth of rapid Internet information exchange filled a gap within the industry. The Design Gallery was voted the 2004 Showroom of the Year by ProSales Magazine. The realization of the Design Gallery further demonstrates Causeway Lumber's dedication to meeting challenges of an ever-changing business environment with imagination, leadership, and commitment. Colonel Whiddon may not have envisioned the enormous growth and success Causeway has achieved over the years, but the enduring values of integrity and honesty he put in place more than 70 years ago remain the cornerstone of Causeway Lumber today. |
